Venus is the second book that I've read by Ben Bova.  The characters are almost three-dimensional although a bit too predictable.  The story is interesting, quick with enough science that I enjoyed it.  I did feel that this might really be what it would be like to try to land on Venus.  You get a feel for some of the forces that might prevail based on the slow rotation and the greenhouse effect.

Additionally there is the transformation of the main character from someone that you don't really like to someone that you can respect.  The change is conducted slowly enough that it is almost feasible.  It was definitely worth the read.
